When Dr. For Sonic games in particular, after the Dreamcast, Sonic Team's preference and expertise has been in a clear order: 1) Nintendo, 2) Microsoft, 3) Sony.Sonic is in a Race against Time to Save the World. This shows not only on Sonic Unleashed, but Sonic 2006: each console has its share of problems, and they show, even in the minute comparisons between ports (in which, at least for the first few years, the XBox 360 versions were superior 95% of the time due to the PS3 being so difficult to take advantage of - much like the Sega Saturn). Add to that the fact that games have yet to be sophisticated enough to be starkly superior on a machine as powerful as the PS3. I have only touched a PS3 twice and an XBox 360 once, but it seems like the XBox 360 is more accessible, even though the PS3 is definitely more powerful. It does not matter to me that the XBox port has a higher poly count than the Gamecube port: if there are no appreciable differences and no exclusive features, I just go with whatever (except for the PS2, which is noticeably inferior to its contemporaries). I would add to that that if the differences are so minute as to require a magnifying glass level of observation, then someone is being way too nitpicky. I have not played the 360 version yet and i dont have a PS3 so it's a little hard to see differences here. I really disagreed with thier review of the PS3/360 versions, but thought they did a pretty good job on this article. To be honest, I think IGN did a good head-to-head with this game. Don't get me wrong, the PS3 version is still good, I just think that the 360 version is better.Īlso, I didn't notice a higher-poly count or better shading while play through the PS3 version, and also didn't notice it while looking at the screens and watching the video. I guess the PS3 version making more dust clouds when Sonic runs could be considered a pro, but honeslty, I never even noticed it until now. The only pro I noticed in the PS3 version was that it sometimes ran at 60 fps, but IMO, a more stable framerate is better than a sometimes higher one. A clear example of this would be to go to the Spagoina night hub and compare the 360 version and the PS3 version. The framrate may be capped (so that it can't run at 60 like the PS3 version does), but I noticed that the framerate is overall more stable in the 360 version. The transition scene is better than the spinning medal (IMO) I own both versions, and I have to say, I actually like the 360 version more. I'd love to see some really HD shots of the models to test this out. You sure about the higher polygon count? I thought it was developed for 360 then ported quite simply to PS3. I think the drops happen in all the same places as on 360. everything else that has logos (like Havok).Īs far as I'm aware, PS3 doesn't have MORE frame rate drops, they're just more noticable when they happen because the regular frame rate is higher. Oh, on the note of loading screens - there's a little spinny Sonic 1 sprite on the initial game load on PS3, and it also displays the logos of. This is just going to turn into a 360 VS PS3 fan rage war over which console is better, im sorry but that what possibly going to happen with a topic like this comparing the same game to other consoles versions of the extact same gameĪs far as I've noticed, the majority of members here are more intelligent than that.įrankly from playing both I've noticed no differences whatsoever (other than the obvious frame-rate and loading screen).
